### An Historical Look to the Past and a Living Present

This beautifully curated, small local museum of agricultural and village life in Hermannsburg looks back over a hundred years of history. It is run by volunteers and since 2000, has been supported by the Heimatmuseum im Heimatbund Hermannsburg e. V.

The exhibits in the museum represent different themes of historical and rural life, yet often with a reflection to the present day. Various objects from day-to-day life are grouped around a replica of an old farm fireplace, such as ornate cupboards and chests filled with linen and trousseau. A shoemaker's parlour and a farmer’s snug illustrate the modest living conditions in the house and courtyard.

During the summer months, a number of extra, specialist events take place across a variety of different themes and subject matters.

The large, surrounding outdoor area with old oaks, an historical working clay oven and reconstructed granary, has become increasingly important as a place to look and linger and not only on events and baking days.  The granary houses a wheelwright, a display of historical equipment demonstrating the old art "from flax to linen" and show where there was a local slaughterhouse, plus beekeeping apparatus belonging to the nearby heathland apiarist.

The old farming equipment, an outdoor fireplace, the beehives with their colonies, all set around a village square and general meeting area, creates a very special atmosphere especially on baking days and at other events.

Close to the museum grounds, on the Auteriver Platz, members of the Heimatmuseum support group have transported and rebuilt a former house from Dornhoff in nearby Baven. Today, it is a wedding venue among other things, for the community of Südheide.
