Dieter Krieg is one of the most unconventional and powerful figures in contemporary German art, highly regarded by art lovers, collectors, and many of his colleagues. In 1978, he represented the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale and, in the same year, took up a professorship at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Throughout his life, Krieg was honored with numerous awards; posthumously, he received the Cologne Fine Art Prize.

VISIONS. Otto Piene

Even as a young artist, Otto Piene was willing to take bold new paths in his search for new forms of artistic expression. This is evidenced by his experiments with soot, grids, and flames dating back to the late 1950s. These experiments also gave rise to the “fire paintings,” created with oil paint and fire on canvas. This experimentation led Piene’s artistic thinking and practice in extraordinary directions and dimensions. He developed ideas that literally soared—more precisely: the vision of “sky art” as a message of peace and freedom.
