NABU Wild Animal Conservation Park

In 1881, the owner of the Sunder Estate, the Squire von Schrader, made his first attempt to establish a fish colony in a natural pool on the estate. The experiment succeeded.

In the course of time, the largest carp farm in northern Germany evolved, which is still indicated today by the carp as a weathercock on the roof of the manor house.  Thus this unique area of naturally humid habitat, has been preserved to this day and which is now under a nature protection scheme.

In 1980, the NABU Federal State Association finally acquired the more than 400-year-old Sunder estate and following extensive renovation, ran an in-house NABU training academy during the 1980s and 1990s.

In October 2003, NABU Gut Sunder became part of NABU Lower Saxony.  It is now used as a visitor and environmental education centre.

In addition to school trips, seminars, action days and conferences, we have a wide range of nature activities and events to offer each and every single visitor, including for example: animal observation, excursions, children's birthday parties, a straw barn, camping and much more ...
